Healing eczema and asthma
These are both autoimmune conditions and they need to be addressed at the root cause in order for the body to heal. The skin and lungs are not ‘defective,’ but rather are giving the body a message that the body is out of balance. A person needs to address the root cause of the autoimmune issue, for the body to stop attacking itself.
Heavy metal toxicity from vaccination and serious toxins like glyphosate sprayed on nonorganic foods can cause autoimmune conditions. Detoxing from these heavy metals and staying away from nonorganic foods cause deep healing. Also removing dairy, gluten and sugar from the diet, which most people are sensitive to, usually helps heal these conditions. Gluten and dairy cause leaky gut and chronic health conditions. Sugar demineralizes the whole body and causes all degenerative diseases. A person should not eat processed foods since they are nutrient deficient and are laden with sugar, inflammatory oils and many chemicals.
Common causes for eczema
Skin problems are a reflection of something that needs to be addressed inside the body.
1. Food sensitivities (can also be from be food sensitivities in the mother passing to the child)
2. Food digestive issues or enzyme sensitivities (an inability to produce or react to enzymes thereby making all food reactive even though the food itself may not be a trigger)
3. Candida – the above 2 usually cause a yeast overgrowth which release acid aldehydes aggravating the skin (semi-permeable membrane syndrome) causing leaking of material into the blood and eventually out through the skin (this is also known as leaky gut syndrome)
4. Stress hormone sensitivity which can affect adrenal function (adrenals regulate cortisol production to deal with inflammation)
5. Metabolic sensitivities
6. Metabolic deficiencies such as methylation reaction issues which can affect liver detoxification and intestinal health
7. Toxicity issues which may be from other metabolic reactions in the body, this also includes heavy metals or other toxins from vaccines or dental silver amalgam fillings
8. Topical allergens cleaning supplies, fabric, soaps, formaldehyde
9. Infection from weak immune system due to candida or unhealthy foods which feed infectious organisms
10. Environmental allergens mold, dust, dust mite dander or animal hair dander, fabric or outside chemicals
11. Steroid syndrome which further aggravates eczema from overuse and suppresses adrenal function making it harder for the body to fight inflammation
12. Deficiencies in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients
This 12 point list is from Dr. Jason Lee, a naturopathic doctor at innermedica.com.
Eczema is caused many times when the body’s primary organs of detox (bowels, lymph, liver) are overburdened and the skin which is the secondary pathway for detox is bearing an excess burden. When a person is not having a bowel movement at least once day (optimally 2-3 times day), toxins in the stagnant backed up waste get reabsorbed in the body.
Many times constipation can be resolved with just making sure to drink enough water. A person is supposed to drink half their body weight in fluid ounces of water. If a person weighs 150 pounds, they should be drinking 75 ounces everyday. It is important to drink filtered water so the liver is not burdened with 60,000 different chemicals in tap water. A reverse osmosis filter can take out fluoride a tiny chemical that is a serious neurotoxin. Other ways to ease constipation are eating enough fiber (raw and cooked vegetables, whole grains), doing a brisk 1-2 mile walk daily and eating fermented vegetables that you can make easily yourself.
Commercial products that come in contact with the skin are mostly a blend of carcinogens, endocrine and respiratory disruptors, and are inflammatory to the skin. Makeup remover can be replaced with simple coconut oil, shampoo and body soap with a clean bar of soap from Unearthmalee, detergent with simple borax, synthetic perfume for essential oils, dish and hand soap for castile liquid soap and harsh cleansers for baking soda and vinegar. Herbs for eczema
Calendula, chamomile, aloe, goldenseal, plantain.
Oats and chickweed for irritated skin.
Slippery elm, witch hazel and turmeric for inflammation.
Nettle and burdock help cleanse the liver which can help clear the skin.
My eczema oil recipe consists of these four essential oils which are combined in equal parts: manuka, geranium, myrrh, and lavender and then diluted with coconut oil which then can be applied to the skin. Myrrh and manuka essential oils help with infected areas. Geranium and Lavender essential oils help inflammation and can soothe the skin.
Common causes for asthma
mouth breathing
herbicide glyphosate exposure from eating nonorganic foods
heavy metal toxicity from aluminum in vaccines or mercury in silver fillings
eating inflammatory foods like dairy, gluten, sugar, vegetable and seed oils, trans fats like hydrogenated oil and margarine
food sensitivities
fluoridated water
mold
sulfites which is a preservative in many processed foods like juices, dry fruits, shredded coconut
environmental toxins like formaldehyde, breathing in toxic household cleansers, dry cleaned clothing, toxic detergent or fabric softener, toxic body soap
acetaminophen (Tylenol), other drugs, and antibiotics
stress (Dr Sarno’s method can help if this is the cause)
Asthma is on this list of diseases caused by toxicity in The Detox Diet book by Dr. Haas.
Herbs for asthma
Eucalyptus can also be taken internally as an herbal tincture. It can be rubbed on the chest in essential oil form, diluted first with coconut oil. Eucalyptus essential oil can also be breathed in straight from the bottle. Use the essential oil with caution with children under age 4.
Eucalyptus leaves
Antimicrobials for the respiratory system are echinacea, wild indigo, myrrh, aniseed, elecampane, thyme, garlic. This helps if the cause of the breathing concern is from an infection.
Herb-Pharm sells two different ready to use tinctures called Herbal Respiratory Relief and Lung Expectorant which can be ordered on Amazon.
This is an herbal tincture recipe for asthma in The Modern Herbal Dispensatory by Easley and Horne called Bronchial Inflammation and Constriction Formula. It should be prepared as a 1:5 tincture in 50% alcohol. 2 parts licorice (name of an actual herb!), 2 parts wild cherry, 1 part khella, 1 part lobelia.
This is another tincture recipe for asthma from Breathing Easy by Hoffman: 4 parts grindelia, 1 part lobelia, 1 part wild cherry bark, 1 part licorice, 1 part motherwort, 1 part ma huang. Combine all herbs in alcohol to make a tincture. Take 5ml of the tincture combination three times a day.
Some other herbs that can be used for asthma:
Grindelia (Gumweed) breaks up hardened mucus in the respiratory tract. Not for long term use.
Holy Basil reduces excessive immune responses in conditions like asthma.
Lobelia is an antispasmodic herb that dilates the bronchial passages to ease asthma attacks. Not for long term use.
Mullein leaves are used for respiratory complaints and can help chronic lung problems like asthma or COPD.
Nettle has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties making it useful for respiratory allergies, asthma and skin concerns.
Spikenard is an expectorant and helps chronic coughs, asthma and bronchitis.
Yerba Santa helps asthma by clearing phlegm from the chest. It works as a decongestant and as a warm, stimulating expectorant.

Medications side effects
Medications block the body’s ability to express itself and will cause more serious conditions. They do not heal the condition. Prescription eczema creams like hydrocortisone are immunosuppressants that can cause a range of side effects like asthma, stomach ulcers that can hemorrhage, glaucoma, cataracts, depression, osteoporosis, insomnia and personality changes. Ironically, a side effect of these creams includes making the eczema worse and causing many new skin conditions!
Breathing medications are steroids that can damage the eyes, cause irregular heartbeat, swelling of the throat, dizziness, insomnia, fine tremor, taste alteration, increased appetite, skin infection, UTI, muscle cramps and emotional tenseness. A side effect of breathing medication is causing wheezing and shortness of breath!
Drug inserts are papers that come with these drugs and creams that are not junk mail to toss, they are warnings of what might really happen to you if you take the medication. Side effects for drugs can also be looked up on drugs.com. Drug side effects do not necessarily go away when the drug or cream is stopped.
There are many herbs for eczema and asthma to help with the symptoms, while a person works on addressing the root cause, to heal fully from within.
Standard moisturizers are full of toxic ingredients. If you can’t understand the ingredients of a commercial moisturizer and would not eat it, then you should not put it on your skin. Abby Tai who self healed from head to toe eczema and now works as a functional nutritionist sells an eczema cream with pure ingredients on eczemaconquerers.com. Petroleum based products like Vaseline don’t soothe the skin but just create a temporary barrier which doesn’t actively support healing and can dry out the skin.
